Our Unique Story

Marsh Building Group started a few years ago, but my journey into building started long before that when I began my apprenticeship with a new home builder. Early on, I was learning the fundamentals of construction in a volume-building environment, where efficiency and repetition were the focus.

During that time, I was also renovating my own home. That experience changed everything for me. I realised I wasn’t just interested in building new houses, I was passionate about breathing new life into old ones. Homes with history, character, and stories that had already stood the test of time. I found myself far more drawn to the challenge and reward of restoring something meaningful than simply building from a set plan.

I finished my apprenticeship working with a renovator who specialised in adapting homes for NDIS clients, making them accessible and disability-friendly. That experience taught me a lot about precision, compliance, and most importantly, building homes that genuinely improve people’s quality of life.

One of the biggest lessons I learned early on came from one of my first quoting mistakes. I significantly underquoted the time required for a job and ended up nearly doubling what I had allowed. It was a tough lesson, but it shaped how I approach planning and transparency today. I learned that accuracy and honesty upfront are critical to delivering a project properly.

What drives me in this industry goes beyond construction itself. I love that so many of the homes in our town are full of character, history, and craftsmanship from a different era. These homes have stood for generations and been part of countless family milestones. There’s something incredibly rewarding about preserving that legacy while bringing them into the modern world.

Seeing a tired, weathered home come back to life is what motivates me. Even more so, seeing families who share that same vision—who can look past the wear and see the potential underneath—is what makes the work meaningful. I take pride in helping those families improve not just their homes, but their everyday quality of life.

Outside of work, I spend time developing my skills through 3D rendering of projects, which helps me better visualise outcomes for clients before construction begins. I also enjoy gardening and spending time with my wife and our two little fluffy dogs.

One project I’m particularly proud of involved a 1930s-era home suffering from severe water ingress issues. The owners had been told by multiple builders that the problem couldn’t be fixed. After reviewing it, we found a solution but it required careful planning and problem-solving to get it right.

That job ended up evolving far beyond just a repair. We completed a full re-roof, then went on to renovate the kitchen and lounge, and built a new deck and pergola. Throughout the project, we worked closely with the owner to preserve the unique character of the home, including incorporating upcycled materials from the original structure.

It became more than just a renovation, it was about respecting the history of the home while making it functional and beautiful again for the next chapter of the family living in it.

That’s what Marsh Building Group is about.
